Appreciation post: My $180 Garmin inReach Mini 2 was a total trip-saver in the Wind River Range

I was solo for a week on the Cirque of the Towers loop and took a bad slip crossing a creek. The device let me send a preset 'I'm okay but delayed' message to my family without a cell signal, which saved them a ton of worry. It's pricey, but having that link when you're truly out there feels different. Anyone have thoughts on other satellite messengers for less frequent use?

Ever think about how those preset messages could mess with your head if you're hurt and alone, @white.seth?

What preset messages did you set up before the trip?

Man, that's a heavy thought. I always just set the basic "all good" and "running late" ones without much thinking. But now you've got me picturing getting a bad knock on the head and just mindlessly sending "all good" to everyone while things are very much not all good. That's a real scary kind of lonely.
