Watched a customer try to explain "the dent just appeared" to my coworker Mike...

Stopped by that new chain shop on 5th street last Tuesday and watched a guy spend 15 minutes trying to convince the estimator that a 4 inch door ding was "from a shopping cart." Mike just nodded the whole time with this straight face while I nearly lost it behind a toolbox. Anyone else get these wild explanations for damage that clearly came from a parking lot hit and run?

Man that Mike has some serious patience. I had a guy last month bring in a Chevy Cruze with the entire passenger side scrapped up, paint transferred from a white sedan, and he tried to tell me a mailbox did it. I was like sir, mailboxes don't have Chevy emblem impressions in them. He just stared at me for like 10 seconds and then mumbled something about the wind pushing it. The best one I ever got was a woman who said a deer ran into her parked car in a Walmart lot, which I almost believed until I saw the red paint chips in the dent that definitely didn't come from any deer. People will come up with the wildest stuff instead of just saying they don't know what happened.

Some of these stories sound more like people messing with you than actual lies. A mailbox with a Chevy emblem imprint? That's almost too ridiculous to believe anyone would say with a straight face. What if they're just testing how creative they can get before you call them out?
