Vent: Saw a 'restored' 78 Chevy pickup at a car show in Springfield and it hurt my soul

It was at the fairgrounds last Saturday. The body lines were off by a full quarter inch, and they'd used way too much filler on the rear quarter panel, you could see the ripples in the sunlight. They'd painted over the original trim holes instead of welding them shut. Makes you miss the old guys who'd spend a week just getting the gaps right. Anyone else see stuff like this and just shake their head?

Man, does this feel like everything these days? I see it with houses, with furniture, with all kinds of stuff. It's like the goal is just to make it look okay from ten feet away for a quick picture, not to actually build something that lasts. That truck is a perfect example, all surface and no care for the real craft underneath. Makes you wonder if people even know what good looks like anymore, or if they just don't have the time to learn.

Spot on, @nelson.daniel, they just don't build things to last anymore.
