I finally messed up a clear coat blend on a silver Accord
Was working on a 2019 Honda Accord last Wednesday, did the prep and base coat perfect but then my gun sputtered halfway through the clear. Ended up with this weird orange peel patch near the rear quarter panel that took forever to sand back down. Anyone got a trick for fixing gun sputter on fresh clear without having to redo the whole panel?

Oh man, I feel your pain on that sputter. One trick that's saved me a few times is to cut the clear with a little reducer right in the cup, just a tiny bit, to thin it out and help it flow better through the gun. You gotta be careful not to go too thin though or you'll get runs instead of orange peel. Other than that, making sure your gun is spotless and the tip is tight before you start can stop the sputter before it even happens.

Thinning the clear on the fly sounds like a recipe for more problems honestly... you're just playing with fire on the viscosity and then you gotta hope it cures out even. Better to just stop, clean the tip real quick, and test your spray pattern on some cardboard before you hit the car again.
