Had a chat with a restoration guy at the car show that changed my mind on filler

He works on classic muscle cars in Detroit. Said he uses way less filler than most shops. Like, maybe a quarter inch max on any panel. Always thought you could just build it up and shape it. He showed me a '69 Camaro he was fixing. Said too much filler cracks over time, especially with heat cycles. Made me rethink the whole 'just make it smooth' approach. How many of you actually measure your filler depth before you sand?

Seems a bit over the top to me.

I get why it seems over the top, I felt the same at first. But last year I was in a spot just like this and going all in was the only thing that worked. Half measures just dragged the problem out longer. Committing fully felt extreme for a week, then it was clearly the right call. Sometimes you need that big push to actually fix something for good.
