Bought a cheap track repair kit that actually held up on a long ride
Picked up a generic brand track repair kit for about $35 before heading out to the trails near Grand Marais. Had a small tear start on a cold morning, slapped the patch on, and it got me through the whole weekend without any issues. Anyone have a go-to brand for these kits or just trust the generic ones?

Trust the generic stuff until it fails you in the worst possible spot. I had a cheap patch give out halfway down a sketchy descent last spring and had to walk my bike out looking like a total fool. Now I keep a name-brand kit in my bag just for the peace of mind, but I'll still use the cheap ones for quick fixes close to home. That mental image of a long walk back is worth the extra twenty bucks to me.

I had that exact thing happen on the old fire road behind Miller's Peak, a five mile walk pushing a dead bike. @shane244 is right about the peace of mind, it's a cheap insurance policy. I keep a fresh Park Tool glueless patch on the underside of my seat now, just for the real emergencies. The generic ones are fine for the garage, but they just don't stick the same when the tire is cold and dirty.
