Finally tried those spray foam window seal kits vs the old rope caulk I've been using for 10 years

My energy bill last January was $280 at my house in Decatur. I'd been using that rope caulk stuff from Home Depot on my old single pane windows every winter and it always crumbled by March. Bought a $25 can of Great Stuff window and door foam last weekend and sealed the gaps around three windows. The draft is totally gone and my thermostat hasn't kicked on as much this week. Anyone else make the switch and notice a difference?

Did you see that Consumer Reports article about foam vs caulk? They did a whole thing on it last fall. I read it while waiting for my car to get an oil change and it said the foam seals way better because it actually expands into the gaps instead of just sitting on top. I switched my basement windows last month and my utility bill dropped like 40 bucks, no joke. The rope caulk always left sticky residue that was a pain to clean off in spring too.

Hold on, is a $40 drop really that big of a deal once you factor in the cost of the foam and the time spent cleaning out the old rope caulk first? Seems like a lot of fuss for a minor change, honestly.
