Can we talk about how long it took me to fix a simple leak under my kitchen sink?

I had a slow drip under the sink for weeks, and everyone told me it was just a loose pipe. Turns out the seal on the disposal unit near the drain was cracked, and it took me three separate trips to Home Depot in Decatur to find the right size gasket. Has anyone else dealt with a problem that seemed obvious but was actually a hidden issue?

Got three different sizes of gasket kits before I found the right one, and the guy at the plumbing aisle just shrugged at me. Reminds me of when I tried to fix a toilet that kept running, swapped out every part inside the tank for two days straight. Finally realized the little rubber flapper was just seated wrong, not even broken. It was the most basic thing, but I tore my bathroom apart chasing phantom issues. Sometimes the easiest fix is the one you ignore because it seems too simple. That disposal gasket hunt sounds like a nightmare, glad you finally got it squared away.

Man @haydenj90 that's the story of my life right there. It's like how when my car started making a weird noise, I spent a weekend checking the alternator, belts, and starter before realizing it was just a loose cup in the cupholder rattling. We always go for the complicated answer first because fixing the simple stuff feels like cheating or something. But half the time the problem is just sitting there staring at us while we're hunting ghosts.
