Tried stacking 3 hours of moon shots vs a single 30 second exposure last night

My stacked image from my backyard in Tucson came out way sharper with the craters popping, but the single exposure had that dreamy glow I actually prefer for wall prints. Has anyone else found stacking is better for detail but worse for aesthetic feel?

That cheap tripod sagging is honestly the worst, feel your pain on that one.

That 30 second exposure from Tucson probably had way better atmospheric glow since you're not fighting the light pollution as hard. Did you try blending the two to get the sharp craters with that dreamy background look?

You said "sharper craters with that dreamy background look," and yeah, that's the million dollar question for moon shots. I actually tried stacking a longer and a shorter exposure once, but the moon moved enough between them that the craters didn't line up cleanly. Did you have to manually align them in post or did you use some stacking software that handled the drift? I've been too lazy to figure out the whole blending workflow, plus my tripod is cheap and lets the camera sag a bit between shots. That Tucson glow sounds amazing though, I bet the difference in air clarity really shows in the final image.
