My uncle handed me his old film negatives from 1987 and I've been staring at them for a week
He came by the house 2 weeks ago with a shoebox full of negatives from his camping trips out near Moab, and he mentioned how everyone back then had to cross their fingers when they dropped film off at the drugstore. I've been shooting nebula shots from my backyard with a used DSLR and a tracker for about 3 years now, so hearing that kind of waiting made me laugh at first. Then it hit me that I've taken over 4,000 frames this year and deleted most of them without a second thought, just swiping through on my laptop. He pulled out one slide of the Milky Way over a rock arch and it was grainy and a little soft, but the colors were still so rich it surprised me. I've started going through my own keepers and printing maybe 10 a year instead of leaving everything on a hard drive. Curious if anyone here still shoots any film for sky stuff, or if the long exposures just make it too painful.
