Question about grocery store chicken after a bad batch

I bought a pack of thighs from the Piggly Wiggly in Opelika last Tuesday and they had a sour smell as soon as I opened the bag. Tossed the whole thing and lost eight bucks plus my dinner. Has anyone else noticed the quality going downhill at certain stores lately?

Is it really that deep? One pack of chicken from Piggly Wiggly and suddenly the whole store is trash. I've bought chicken there a dozen times and never had an issue, but I always check the sell-by date and give it a sniff before buying. Sometimes you just get a bad pack, you know? Happened to me at Publix once with some ground beef and I didn't go online writing eulogies for the meat department. Eight bucks is annoying but it's not like they sold you month-old roadkill.
