Overheard a kid at the mall ask his mom what a payphone was

I was grabbing coffee last Saturday and this kid, maybe 10 years old, points at an old payphone near the food court and asks his mom what it is. She explained you put coins in to call people, and he just stared at it like it was a museum piece. It hit me that I remember actually using those things to call my mom for a ride after school. Makes you wonder what everyday stuff we have now will seem ancient to kids in 20 years. What's the thing that made you feel old when someone younger didn't recognize it?

Honestly I used to roll my eyes when people would get all nostalgic about old tech... but watching that kid stare at the payphone like it was a relic from another planet kinda hit different. Makes me realize how much I took those little everyday things for granted back then.

Those payphones really were a lifeline before everyone had a cell phone. I remember the panic of finding a quarter when you needed to call home. The real shock will be when kids don't understand clocks with hands or physical maps. My nephew asked me what a VHS tape was last year and I felt ancient. It's strange how fast things that seemed so normal just vanish from daily life.
