I finally realized I was washing my cast iron wrong for 5 years in Denver
My buddy came over last week and saw me scrubbing my skillet with soap and a chainmail scrubber after making bacon. He just stared at me and said 'you know you're ruining the seasoning, right?'. I always thought soap was a big no-no but the internet told me modern dish soap was fine, so I kept doing it. Now I'm second guessing everything I know about kitchen care, and my eggs still stick like crazy. Has anyone else had a moment where you found out your whole routine was backwards?

My sister caught me scraping off decades of my grandma's seasoning with steel wool and nearly cried, lol. Now I just wipe mine out with salt and a paper towel after bacon and my eggs slide around like they're on ice skates.
