Took 4 years to realize I was stretching canvases backwards
Last month I flipped a canvas over to staple the back and noticed the weave was totally different on the side I'd been painting. Checked a YouTube video at 2am and sure enough, I had the rough side facing out the whole time, which is why my acrylics kept soaking in uneven. Anyone else ever miss something this basic for years?

Ngl I paint on the rough side too and honestly my acrylics do fine, I just use a lil more water or gesso first. Seems like one of those things people overthink, like the canvas police are gonna come measure your teeth or something.
