Am I the only one who was squeezing paint straight from the tube onto the canvas this whole time?
I've been painting with acrylics for about three years now and last Tuesday I sat in on a free demo at the art store in Tulsa, and the guy showed how he mixes every color on a palette with a little water before it ever touches the canvas. My mind just kind of froze because I've always just squeezed paint right out of the tube and smeared it around, and I honestly thought that was how everyone did it. The difference is huge, my blends actually look smooth now instead of chalky and streaky, and I wasted probably 20 tubes of paint over the years fighting with dry patches. Has anyone else been doing it the lazy way and switched, or do some of you still paint straight from the tube on purpose?
