That dig catalog number in Ohio surprised me at 1,847 pieces

I've been sorting artifacts from a small site near Dayton for two months now. When I finally logged the last sherd last Friday, the total hit 1,847 individual pieces. I figured maybe 600 tops based on how shallow the trench was. But a lot of them are tiny flakes and broken pipe stems that add up fast. Has anyone else had a count balloon on them once you stop grouping and start listing every single fragment?
