Tried skipping the pre-wash on a tough dryer repair and it backfired hard
I was at a house in Decatur last Thursday replacing a drum belt on a Samsung dryer, figured I'd save 10 minutes by not running a pre-wash on the lint filter housing like the manual says. Halfway through the reassembly, I found a melted sock stuck behind the blower wheel that took 30 minutes to dig out with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Why do we always think shortcuts are worth it when they just end up costing double the time?

You know, reading this I had to laugh because I used to be one of those guys who thought skipping steps was just being efficient. But then I had a very similar thing happen with a washing machine drum I was fixing. I skipped checking the drain pump filter because I figured it was fine and then ended up pulling out a child's sock that had been in there so long it was basically fused to the plastic. Cost me an extra hour of scraping and swearing. You're right that it's never worth it. I finally learned the hard way that the "shortcut" is almost always just the long way in disguise.

Sometimes skipping steps saves you enough time that the risk pays off.
