Is this really a hill to die on? Like if a cheap microwave breaks, you're probably spending half its cost just on the repair guy showing up. Plus the time spent without it.

But why make such a big deal out of it...? Repair costs can easily match the price of a new one, and you have to schedule it and wait. Plus, newer models are often more energy efficient anyway. Just feels like a waste of time and money to fix something so disposable.

@oliviar65, your take on repair costs hits home. I had a coffee maker that died, and the shop wanted eighty bucks to fix it. Found a video online, ordered a fifteen dollar thermal fuse, and had it working in an hour. That was three years back, and it makes my coffee every morning. Sure, newer models might save a few watts, but this thing has character now. Learning to fix small stuff can change how you see all your gadgets, you know?
