Old timer told me to use a heat gun on seized washer bearings

A guy I met at a supply house in Phoenix said to just blast the bearing hub with a heat gun for 5 mins before trying to press them out. Tried it on a Samsung washer yesterday and the bearing came out smooth instead of fighting me for an hour. Has anyone else had luck with heat on seized bearings or is there a better trick?

Yeah the "heat gun for 5 mins" thing is good but you gotta be careful. I've seen guys melt plastic parts on the back of the drum if they get too close or leave it on too long. Just hit the hub area directly and keep it moving, not a bad trick overall.

Nah, I gotta disagree with you on that one... I've been using a heat gun on drums for years and never melted a thing. If you're melting plastic parts you're holding it way too close or sitting in one spot for too long. The trick is to keep it moving and don't crank it on full blast, just use a medium setting. Plus most of the plastic on newer drums is pretty tough stuff anyway.
