Question about finding old anime forum threads from a specific scene
I spent like 3 hours trying to find a forum discussion about a weird scene in 'Serial Experiments Lain' (you know, the one with the wires and the bear). I could remember the scene perfectly but not the episode number, and searching just brought up reviews. I finally solved it by using a fan wiki to get the exact episode name, then searched that plus 'forum' and 'reddit'. Has anyone else found a better way to dig up old anime talk about a single moment?

Your method with the wiki is smart. I've had luck searching for the exact Japanese script line if there's a memorable quote in the scene. Sometimes the fansub groups used specific phrasing that shows up in old forum archives. For really obscure stuff, have you tried searching on archive.org for old Geocities fan sites? Those sometimes had episode breakdowns with comments.

Oh man, @diana641, you just reminded me of the time I spent three hours on archive.org looking for a lost Geocities page about a single Tenchi Muyo OVA. I found a broken layout with a visitor counter and a review that just said "the spaceship looks fake." That was my big payoff. My search history is just a sad museum of dead forums and fansub group drama. I once identified an episode purely because some 2004 translator added a note about the ramen brand a character was eating.
