I was ready to drop One Piece at episode 30, then a stranger at a Cleveland bus stop spoiled a death for me
Two summers ago I was stuck at a bus stop in Cleveland with a dead phone and nothing but a paperback of volume 11. A guy next to me saw the cover, asked where I was at, and when I said I was thinking of quitting he just said 'wait till you meet the guy with the swords, that's when it hooks.' He then casually dropped a major death spoiler and walked onto his bus like it was nothing. I was annoyed for maybe a day, but weirdly the spoiler made me want to see how they got there, so I kept reading. Three weeks later I was 400 chapters deep and buying box sets. I get why people hate spoilers, but has anyone else had one actually make them stick with a series instead of drop it?
Wait, he dropped the actual death spoiler and that's what pulled you back in? That is wild to me. Getting spoiled usually ruins the whole thing for me, I would have been mad for way longer than a day. But I guess the "how did they get there" thing is real, a good story makes you want the road even if you know the exit. Still can't believe a random guy at a Cleveland bus stop decided your anime fate like that.
