I just realized I've been skipping the 'filler' episodes in long-running anime for years, and my friend pointed out I missed a major character moment in 'One Piece' episode 312.

He said the whole Baratie backstory with Sanji and Zeff that I thought was boring filler was actually canon and crucial, which makes me wonder what other key scenes I've dismissed without checking.

Wait, so how do you even check what's filler and what's not? I mean, I just go by those online lists, but now I'm worried they're wrong.

The Naruto anime's "filler list" culture did real damage. People skipped episodes 142-147, which are canon and adapt Jiraiya's crucial backstory with Nagato. They just got lumped in with the bad filler around them.
