For 2 years I was pricing my custom cakes all wrong

I did a cake market for a wedding expo last Saturday and a vendor next to me had almost the same cake for $80 more than mine. Turns out I was forgetting to charge for design time and specialty ingredients like edible gold. How did you finally figure out your pricing method?

$80 more for basically the same cake? That's a gut punch (and I mean that in the worst way). I'd be kicking myself for weeks if I found out I left that much cash on the table at a wedding expo. Design time is one of those things that's so easy to overlook, especially when you're in the middle of a busy weekend and just trying to get orders out. Did you also miss stuff like the cost of those fancy cake boards or delivery fees? Because I bet there's another hidden cost hiding in there somewhere.

Oh man, @oliver_anderson you nailed it. Cake boards and delivery fees are the sneaky extras that pile up fast. I forgot about rush charges too, like when a bride wants it at 8am on a Saturday. That design time thing really gets you, doesn't it? It's the kind of cost that feels invisible until you see it on paper.
