A customer told me my invoices were confusing and I completely reworked them
Last month a regular client in Canyon said my invoice looked like a jumble of numbers and they couldn't tell what each charge was for. I used to lump all tree trimming costs together under one line, but now I break it out by tree count and hours. I also added a short note at the bottom explaining the work done that day (like which oaks we trimmed and why). Has anyone else had to redo their billing setup after feedback like that? What did you change that made a difference?

The thing nobody's touched on yet is how you present the payment terms and due dates on those invoices. I had a client totally miss their payment because I had "Net 30" buried at the bottom in small text, and they thought they had 45 days. Now I put a bold box right under the total that says "Payment due by [date]" in plain English, and I even add a second line that says "Late fee of $X applies after that date" so there's no guessing. It's cut down on the "oh I didn't see that" excuses by a ton.

yeah, that "jumble of numbers" hit close to home. I had someone say the same thing and splitting things out by category was a game changer.
