A customer told me my estimates were too confusing so I simplified everything

I had a guy last month look at my bid for painting his living room and say he had no idea what he was paying for. He pointed out I was breaking down labor and materials separate but he just wanted a flat price. Now I just give a single number for the whole job with a short list of what's included and it's been way smoother. Has anyone else had to change their whole pricing format because of one customer?

Yeah, flat pricing is the way to go for residential work. People don't want to think about line items, they just want to know how much to pay. I had a homeowner get pissed at me for listing paint brand and sheen on a quote. She said it was "too much information." Now I just write "paint materials" and that's it. Keep it stupid simple or they won't hire you.
