TIL the $7 scratch repair kit for my car actually worked, and now I feel dumb for almost paying $400
I had a key scratch down the whole passenger side of my Corolla from some jerk in a Target parking lot in Roseville back in April. I got a $400 quote from a body shop and sat on it for two months because that felt insane for what looked like a surface mark. Last week I grabbed a $7 tube of Scratch Out from the auto parts store, mostly expecting to waste my Saturday and prove myself right about it being junk. It took me about 40 minutes of rubbing with a microfiber cloth and my arm was killing me by the end. But the scratch is basically gone unless you get real close and know where to look. Now I'm sitting here wondering if I've been overthinking every single car repair my whole life and just paying people to do stuff I could figure out on YouTube. Am I crazy for thinking most of these fixes are simpler than shops make them sound, or did I just get lucky with this one? Has anyone tried this on deeper scratches and had it actually fail?
