That time I spent 20 minutes staring at a jar lid before opening it
I used to just grab a jar of pasta sauce and twist it open without thinking. Now I pause and check the lid for that little lip or indent because I swear I got a bad batch last month where the seal was welded shut. It took me three tries and a towel to get it open, and my wife laughed at me from the doorway. Has anyone else started overthinking a simple jar lid after one bad experience?

99 percent of jar lids are perfectly fine and you're creating a problem where none exists. Spending 20 seconds let alone 20 minutes on something that requires a half second of grip strength is wild.

99 percent of jar lids are perfectly fine" - see that's the thing though. That 1 percent gets you. Once you've had a lid that felt like it was glued on with industrial adhesive, you don't forget it. Now I find myself checking every lid for that little tab or grip because I'd rather spend 10 seconds looking than 5 minutes wrestling with a stuck one and dropping sauce all over the counter. It's not about grip strength, it's about not wanting to deal with the hassle again. One bad jar ruined it for me too.
