I finally finished a bookshelf I started back in April

It was supposed to be a weekend project but I spent 4 months overthinking the shelf spacing and wood stain color. My wife just said "pick one" so I went with natural oak and it looks fine. Has anyone else spent way too long on a simple build?

My buddy Tom did the same thing with a plant stand. Picked it up in March, built the frame in two days, then spent five months debating if he should paint it or leave it raw wood. Ended up painting it beige and his wife said it looked like a cardboard box.

Tom took five months to decide on paint? Thats next level indecision. Did he at least do a test patch on a scrap piece first, or did he just go all in on the beige and hope for the best? I once spent a whole weekend agonizing over two shades of gray for a bookshelf and still ended up with something that looked like primer. How did he finally make up his mind after all that time?
