Unpopular opinion: I stopped using water softener after a plumber on Montgomery told me not to bother
I had my mind made up about putting in a whole house softener for our place near Eubank, mostly because the water out here leaves that white crust on everything. Then a plumber named Ray told me our water sits around 7 grains of hardness, which he said is mild, and that a softener would just add salt and upkeep for a problem I could handle with a $20 filter. I switched to a filter on the kitchen tap and a vinegar soak on the shower head once a month, and honestly the crust is way less of a headache than I expected. Anyone else here decide against a softener and regret it, or was Ray right?
