That inspector's note about my crawlspace vents changed my whole setup
I used to think more airflow under the house was always better, so I had these big vents cut in and even added a little fan. The inspector doing our refinance a couple months ago wrote in the report that my setup was pulling moist desert air into the joists during monsoon season. He said, "You're cooling the dirt, not the house," and that got me thinking. I sealed half the vents and put in a vapor barrier over the bare ground, cost about $180 in materials. Now the musty smell in my hallway is gone and the wood moisture meter reads way lower. Has anyone else in Albuquerque dealt with crawlspace humidity this way, or do you keep the vents open year round?
