Renting a sod cutter beat buying one, saved me $140 this weekend

Finally ripped out the dead patch in my backyard off Central Ave. Looked at renting a powered sod cutter for $65 a day versus buying a manual one for $200. The rental cut through the crabgrass and roots like butter, done in 3 hours instead of a full weekend. Only downside was hauling it back in my truck, but the deposit refund was quick. Anyone else tried the manual ones and think they're worth it for a smaller yard?

I heard a landscaper on the radio say the rental ones have way better blades for thick roots, and honestly my back agrees after that job. The manual ones might be fine for a tiny patch, but they wear you out fast and still leave uneven cuts. For the price difference, I'd say renting is the smarter move unless you plan to redo your whole lawn every year.
