My swamp cooler pad froze solid last winter and I had no idea what to do
It was a Tuesday morning in January, I went out to the roof to check on the unit at my place near Montgomery and San Mateo. The whole pad was a solid block of ice, maybe three inches thick, because I forgot to drain the lines after the last cool day. I ended up having to cut the power, use a hairdryer on an extension cord to slowly thaw it, and then replace the shredded pad. Took me the whole afternoon. What's the best way you all handle the switch from cooling to winter prep to avoid this mess?

Grab a wet/dry shop vac to suck all the water out of the lines and pan after you drain it. Makes sure nothing's left to freeze up later.

My old Craftsman vac saved my sprinkler system last winter. Got every last drop out of the backflow preventer.

Freeze up later"? Is that really a big deal?
