Used to think wireless sensors were a cop-out, changed my mind after a Victorian house job in Portland

Spent 3 hours trying to fish wire through plaster and lathe before I gave up and grabbed a Honeywell 5800 series. Anyone else find old construction finally justified going wireless?

Gotta disagree on this one. Lathe and plaster is a pain for sure but wireless just feels like a bandaid fix once you factor in battery swaps and signal drops down the line.

Oh man, I am the complete opposite on this one. Battery swaps take five minutes once a year, and modern sensors give you months of warning before they die. Signal drops are a non-issue if you actually map your system right and don't cram the panel in a metal box in the basement. Lath and plaster is a nightmare that kills signal anyway, so wireless actually solves that problem too. Plus you get way more placement flexibility without being stuck following joists and studs for an hour. I'd rather change a battery twice a decade than spend another Saturday covered in drywall dust fighting with old knob and tube wiring.
