Tried safety wire on a stubborn bolt after 20 years of lock washers and it actually held
Was buttoning up a flap actuator on a King Air in Amarillo and the lock washer kept backing off, so I dug out the safety wire pliers I never touch. Took 10 extra seconds and it has not budged in three weeks of flying, so what else am I still doing the old way for no good reason?
Three weeks on a King Air flap actuator is a real test, not just a hangar story. I fought the same fight on a 206 for years, and the safety wire guys kept telling me I was wasting time on lock washers. Turns out they were right and I was just too stubborn to admit it.
