The day I realized I'd been torquing cylinder base nuts wrong for 8 years
I was helping a new guy at the hangar in Tampa. He asked why I wasn't using a crow's foot on the forward row. I told him it was fine. He showed me the torque spec manual for the IO-540 and I had been overtightening by about 40 foot-pounds. Felt like a complete idiot. Anybody else have a basic procedure they just assumed they knew?

Felt that, I once cross-threaded my own coffee maker.

It's wild how we all have that one skill we think we've mastered until the universe humbles us. Makes you wonder what other simple things we're all accidentally doing wrong.
