Pro tip: Watching a new hire struggle with a manual taught me to ask for help sooner.
I was training a rookie on the hangar floor last Tuesday. He spent hours on a simple avionics check because he wouldn't ask about the wiring guide. It dawned on me that I do the same thing with home repairs, like when my fence was sagging. Now I just call a friend who knows carpentry before I even pick up a tool. It cuts the job time in half and stops small issues from becoming big ones. Seeing that at work changed how I handle problems outside the shop too.

Sometimes the person you ask for help learns something new from your basic questions.

Yeah, explaining stuff always makes it clearer for me too.

That's so true, and @aaronwest is right about how teaching helps the teacher too.
