Back when composite repairs first showed up in our hangar, I thought it was just a fad.

We got a new tech from a big airline who insisted on using a specific infrared thermometer, the Fluke 62 Max, to check cure temps. I thought my old oven thermometer was fine. After a patch on a Cessna 172 rudder failed a year later, we found my method had spots 15 degrees too cold. That guy was right about the even heat. Anyone else have an old tool they finally had to give up on for good?

That stubbornness about old methods is everywhere now.

Wait, a patch just fell off a year later? That's terrifying!

Honestly I've seen patches hold up for decades with the right prep work.
