My neighbor in Boise said to spray frozen fries with oil before air frying, and she was right
I usually just dump frozen fries straight in the basket and they come out dry and chalky. My neighbor Carol in Boise told me to toss them with a teaspoon of oil first, and I tried it on a batch of Ore-Ida crinkle cuts at 400 degrees for 14 minutes. Night and day difference, crispy outside and fluffy inside. Does anyone else pre-oil frozen stuff, or is that just a fries thing?
Pre-oiling works but it's not the only way. I've had way better luck just cranking the temp up to 425 and shaking the basket every 5 minutes, gets them crispy without the extra mess from the oil. Tossing them in oil does help the seasoning stick though, so if you're adding salt or paprika anyway it makes sense. For stuff like frozen chicken nuggets or mozz sticks, oil just makes them greasy in my experience, those do fine on their own.
