My street food tour in Taipei got weird when the guide brought his pet parrot

I was on a food tour in the Shilin Night Market last month. The guide had a parrot on his shoulder that kept stealing bites of our stinky tofu. He said it's his new gimmick to make tours more memorable. Maybe it's just me, but I found it more distracting than fun, and the bird was kinda loud.

Seriously, this is everywhere now. Every tour, every cafe, every thing has to have some weird twist to get attention. I went to a pizza place last week that had a cat walking on the tables, and it was just annoying. It's like they forget what people actually came for, which in your case was the food, not a loud bird. They think it makes things memorable, but really it just makes you remember how bad it was. We need to stop with the gimmicks and let the good stuff speak for itself.

My cousin dragged me to a burger place with a mini golf course last month. We ended up playing a full game while our fries got soggy on the table. It's a shame when the side show steals attention from the main event.

Tried a taco spot with free arcade games last year. We made a rule to finish eating before anyone touched the games, worked like a charm. Food stayed hot and we still got to play street fighter after. Sometimes you just gotta set ground rules lol.
