Timed spicy challenges rewarding speed over endurance make no sense to me

I mean, finishing a plate fast doesn't mean you handled the heat better if you're sick for hours after, idk maybe it's just me but that's flawed.

In that hot wing challenge from Buffalo Wild Wings, they clock you but don't check how you feel after. Honestly, racing through spice means you ignore the flavor layers and just suffer. Tbh, the real test should be if you can taste the notes behind the heat, not just swallow fast. Ngl, I've seen friends win timers but then hate the food forever, which beats the purpose. Speed challenges turn eating into a stunt, not a meal. They reward shock value over actual enjoyment or skill.

Buffalo Wild Wings' hot wing challenge always seemed like a pain contest to me. @the_lisa, you're spot on about missing the flavor layers when you're racing the clock. But what if the challenge was to name the different spices you taste after eating a wing, not just finish first? That would actually check if you appreciate the food, not just endure heat. Speed eating turns it into a party trick where the real skill of tasting gets ignored. So how do we make a contest that rewards people for liking the meal, not for being tough? Otherwise, it's just a bad time dressed up as fun.

I once slowed down during a wing contest and actually enjoyed the subtle spices. @maxh36's idea to name flavors would reward tasting over speed.
