I used to think the 'Lost' finale was a total cop-out, but my friend's simple question changed my mind.
For years, I'd rant about how the ending of 'Lost' was lazy and didn't answer anything, just a bunch of spiritual nonsense. I watched it live back in 2010 and was so mad I almost threw a pillow at the TV. Then, about six months ago, my buddy Mike asked me, 'What specific mystery did you actually need solved that would have made it better?' I couldn't give him a good answer. I realized I was just chasing answers for things like the numbers or the polar bear, but the show was always about the people, not the island's weird science. Rewatching it, I saw how the finale focused on the characters finding peace, which was the whole point. Now I think it's a pretty solid, emotional ending even if it's messy. Has anyone else had a show finale grow on them years later?

Watched my friend Sarah get so mad at the 'How I Met Your Mother' ending she deleted the whole series from her DVR. She called it a betrayal of the mother's character. Then last year, she binged it all again during a rough patch and texted me saying the ending finally clicked for her, that Ted's story was always about Robin, and the messy, sad ending felt more real than a perfect one.

My sister had the same journey with that ending, took her three rewatches to get it.

Honestly sage212, I think your friend Sarah just grew up a little.
