PSA: Just read that a 6-foot cedar fence can warp 2 inches in a single humid summer

Saw it in an old trade journal from the 80s my boss keeps in the truck. How do you guys account for that when setting posts in wet climates?

Remember my buddy built a privacy fence around his new patio. He set the posts dead plumb in spring, used treated pine. By August the whole thing looked like a roller coaster, boards pulling away, gaps you could see through. He had to pull half the posts and reset them with a huge gravel base for drainage. Makes you wonder if just setting them a little tight from the start would save the headache.

Yeah I read somewhere that wood can still twist even if it's treated, especially if the ground stays wet.

My uncle's old deck did that, boards cupping so bad you'd trip on them. He swore it was the sprinkler hitting it every night.
