Switched from hand-sewing to a machine for my vintage-inspired dresses and wow, what a difference

I used to hand-sew all my 1940s style dresses because I thought it was more authentic, but after 2 years of slow progress I borrowed my aunt's old Singer. The seams are way straighter and I finished a whole dress in 3 days instead of 3 weeks. Has anyone else had this kind of turnaround when switching methods?

Oh man, that's such a big switch to make. I went through something similar when I started using a serger for the first time after doing all my seams by hand. I used to think the machine would take away that handmade feel but honestly it just made me so much faster. Now I can actually finish multiple dresses in a month instead of one every other season. My grandmother was a hand-sewer for everything and she'd probably roll over in her grave if she saw me now but I can't argue with results. The straightness of machine stitching on those bias cut skirts is just unbeatable too.

Well, I actually find hand-sewing more relaxing and precise for vintage pieces.
