The dishwasher pod plastic is not edible, apparently

So my roommate moved out last week and left behind a half-used package of those dishwasher pods. I grabbed one, ripped it open, and tossed the plastic wrapper in with the dishes thinking it would dissolve like those laundry sheets. Three cycles later and my dishwasher had this weird sticky film all over everything. My glasses came out cloudy, plates felt greasy, and I genuinely thought the machine was broken. Called my dad who used to fix appliances and he laughed for a solid minute before explaining those wrappers are NOT water soluble. Cost me $12 for a bottle of dishwasher cleaner and two hours of running empty cycles to fix it. Now I have to ask, has anyone else made this mistake or am I just the one who thought plastic melts away in hot water?

Oh man, oh man, you are NOT alone. Last year I was half asleep and threw one of those pods in with my laundry thinking the whole thing was a detergent sheet. It left this weird waxy coating on my towels and I had to rewash everything three times with baking soda and vinegar before it came out. I felt so dumb when I realized the plastic part was basically just a wrapper. The worst part was the smell, it was like a chemical factory mixed with wet socks.
