TIL I've been stripping 12/2 Romex wrong for a decade

A new apprentice pointed out I was scoring the outer jacket too deep, which he learned from a Mike Holt video. Anyone else have a basic skill they realized they were messing up?

Mike Holt's video on that is a game changer. I used to nick the insulation all the time before I saw his trick with the utility knife. Makes a clean strip every single time.

What's his trick for not cutting the wire?

Actually, that's a risky method if you're not super careful. A utility knife can cut too deep and damage the copper. I've had better luck with a proper wire stripper for control.
