Old master electrician told me to trust the tick tracer, I didn't listen
Back in 2019 I was helping out on a rewire in a 1950s house outside of Cleveland. The guy running the job was 60 something, been in the trade since he was 16. He told me to check every single wire with the non contact tester before I touched anything, even if the breaker was off. I figured I knew better since I had already pulled the meter and verified with my multimeter at the panel. Turns out there was a second feed coming from a buried line that the old service drop had. I got a good zap on my knuckle, nothing serious, but it shook me up real good. That tester cost me $25 and I still carry it on every job now. Has anyone else run into mystery feeds that showed up dead at the panel but live at the outlet?
