Appreciation post: the library on Grand Ave has a seed swap box and nobody told me
Went in to return two books about tomatoes and saw a little wooden box by the checkout desk labeled free seeds. It had maybe 20 envelopes in it, all hand labeled, things like Cherokee Purple and Detroit Dark Red with dates from 2023. The librarian said people drop off extras every fall and it has been running for 6 years with nobody really tracking it. Does anyone else have a library near them doing this, and do you actually plant what you grab or does it just sit in a drawer?
The real magic is that those seeds have been adapting to your exact neighborhood for years, so they'll grow better than anything shipped from a catalog. Grab a few and plant them this spring, free local seeds are kind of a cheat code.
