Guy at the Ace in Tucson told me to quit caulking over old caulk and just dig it out first
I fought a tub seam for 6 months with mold coming back every 3 weeks, then he said the new bead never sticks to the old stuff and I had to scrape down to the tile. Has anyone else had a spot that kept failing no matter how careful you were?
Waited six months fighting that same mold? That would have driven me up the wall. I always figured putting new caulk over the old bead was fine as long as I cleaned it good first, but hearing that the new stuff just won't stick to the old layer makes so much sense now. It explains why my own tub seam kept peeling and turning black no matter how many times I redid it. Scraping all the way down to the tile sounds like a pain but it beats doing the same job over and over. Guess the guy at the Ace knew what he was talking about.
