Showerthought: My old Milwaukee drill finally gave up on a deck project in Austin
I was putting in lag bolts for a new railing and the chuck just locked up, so I grabbed a can of WD-40 and sprayed it right into the motor vents. Let it sit for a day and it started working again, good as new. Has anyone else brought a power tool back from the dead with something simple like that?

My old Ryobi sawzall came back to life after I left it in a bucket of rice. Felt like a tech support hack for tools.

Stick it in a bucket of rice for a full day or just overnight, and did you see any actual rice dust inside the motor when you took it back out? I always worry about that stuff getting stuck in the bearings or gumming up the brushes. Just seems like it could trade one problem for another.

Wait you sprayed WD-40 straight into the motor... and it worked? That's wild, I always heard that stuff could wreck the insides because it attracts dust and gunk. I guess if the tool was already dead it didn't matter, but still... letting it sit for a whole day must have let everything evaporate or settle. I would've been sure I just finished it off for good.
