Serious question, does anyone else think the 'slow travel' thing is overrated after what a guy in Chiang Mai told me
Everyone in this community loves to say you have to stay 3 months in every city to really get it, and I just don't buy it anymore. Last week I was at a coworking spot in Chiang Mai, paying about $9 a day for the hot desk, and this older guy from Ireland sitting next to me had been in the same guesthouse for 14 months straight. He said something that stuck with me. He told me he had been to 40 countries and could not name a single street in any of them, and that staying put just meant he swapped one routine for another, just with worse internet. I bounced around every 2 or 3 weeks for most of last year and those short stops are the ones I actually remember. People act like moving fast is shallow, but honestly I learned more Thai in 10 days of getting lost than he did in over a year of ordering the same pad thai. Curious if anyone here has done both and felt the same, or if I'm just bad at sitting still.
